I Don't Have All the Answers…

But I know I can find them!

I was once told (by a male business school professor) that I couldn’t have it all. At that point in my life, I was only toying with the idea of having children, and already had a career that kept me busy, to say the least. Unfortunately, for far too many years after that, I believed him. I agreed with it, and so did many other of my mom friends.

And then… I came upon the realization that there are infinite possibilities. It was only then did I realize…you CAN have it all! But how?? That’s what I’m on a quest to find out. I do know – it means different things for different people. My professor meant that I couldn’t be a CEO and a mom at the same time. The funny thing is, I am. But it certainly doesn’t look like I expected it to all those years ago – powerful in my designer suits, leading meetings with lots of other people in suits, looking smart, saying smart things, jet setting…the old dream is getting fuzzy. Oh no. My meetings, as a CEO and mom, are now often held while holding a child in my arms, and wearing lounge pants (a nice way of saying fashionable sweats), with breakfast spilled on my chest. That may not work for everyone…geez, it doesn’t always work for me. But what it made me realize, is that I can still pursue the dream, in my way, while raising a family. This isn’t the first time someone has done it. But sometimes if feels like it.

So I decided to bring moms together – to have a place where not only we can connect and share our ideas of having it all, but offer resources to enable it. We really can’t do it all alone – and really, would that be “it all?”

I have found that I’m really good at making something AWESOME out of not so much. And I find that if we, as busy mamas, can manage our resources well (whatever we have – time, money, energy, creativity, talent, food, our people, oh the list goes on and on)- that gets us just that much closer to the dream. It gets us really close, if it doesn’t just take us straight there. So my goal is to help you do just that. And for everyone to have a good time while doing it.

So I may not have all the answers, but I am certainly resourceful enough to track them down. I’ll share what I find with you…and please, ask away.

It sounds like you are becoming a master of balance. I agree that having it all may look different now than when we were just starting out, but being able to change, grow, learn, and connect is a big part of having it all. You truly are a success any way you look at it! Kim
